| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara, pearl drop earring, and pearl necklace, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley. The effigy is rendered with fine detail in the hair and dress, occupying the central field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim and COOK ISLANDS along the upper right rim, both in raised Latin capital letters. The denomination TEN DOLLARS appears in two lines at the base of the field, flanking the date 2003. The entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim. |

Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver in large formats since the 1970s, but the Bird of Paradise pieces from the early 2000s were produced under licensing arrangements that routed distribution almost entirely through European and American wholesale channels — very few ever reached Rarotonga. The practical effect is that a coin nominally issued by a Pacific territory was bought almost exclusively by collectors in Frankfurt and Chicago.
KM# 137 is one of several oversized issues from this period struck at the B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt facility in Munich.
