| Obverse description | Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left rim, COOK ISLANDS along the right rim, and the date 2010 is positioned at the bottom of the field. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a polished mirror field, consistent with proof coinage aesthetics. |

The Atomium was built as the centerpiece of Expo 58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, and was originally intended to be dismantled after the event — as most such structures are. It survived through public affection and institutional inertia, and was eventually renovated and granted permanent status in 2006, just four years before this coin was struck. Cook Islands has issued collector silver through licensing arrangements for decades, with the Pacific microstate lending its issuing authority to themes that have no geographic connection to the islands whatsoever.
