| Reverse description | Three aircraft representative of the Royal Australian Air Force's centennial history are depicted in dynamic arrangement across the field: an early SE5A biplane (designated A2-16), a Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft, and a modern F-35A Lightning II. A Wedge-tailed Eagle, as featured on the RAAF badge, is positioned to the left of the composition. The surrounding legend commemorates the centenary of the RAAF, with the dates 1921 and 2021 flanking the initials C AS. |

| Additional information |
The "Heroes of the Sky" series was issued to commemorate Australian military aviators, a subject the Royal Australian Mint has revisited periodically since the centenary of the RAAF in 2021. The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II — sculpted by Jody Clark and adopted by Australian coinage in 2019 — appears here on one of the smaller gold proof denominations in the RAM's catalog, where the 3.135g specification corresponds to a tenth-ounce equivalent format long popular in Australian proof gold issues.
The RAAF was formed on 31 March 1921, making 2021 its centenary year — the direct occasion for this release.
