Additional information

Issued to mark the millennium transition, this piece belongs to a short New Zealand gold series pairing the fourth Machin-derived portrait of Elizabeth II with iconic national and regional landmarks. Niagara is an odd inclusion for a New Zealand series — the falls straddle the Ontario-New York border — but the coin was aimed squarely at the North American collector market, where Niagara carries obvious commercial appeal.

KM#130 was struck in limited numbers by the Royal Canadian Mint on contract.
