Additional information

The 2011 Australian gold proof kangaroo series from the Perth Mint was struck in .9999 fine gold — the "four nines" fineness that Perth adopted as a house standard in the late 1980s to distinguish its bullion products from the .999 fine coins then dominating international markets. That extra decimal of purity was a deliberate commercial decision, not a technical necessity, aimed squarely at Japanese and Asian investors who placed outsized premium on purity certification.

KM#1522 corresponds to the 1/10 oz denomination within the proof kangaroo program, which ran parallel to the bullion strikes but with frosted relief and mirrored fields finished by hand-selected planchets.
