Additional information

The 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings in 2005 prompted an unusually large volume of commemorative issues from Australian mints, but Perth's gold proof entry in the series was among the more restrained — small enough in diameter to have been struck on blanks consistent with the quarter-ounce sovereign tradition. The ANZAC commemoration cycle had by this point become a significant commercial programme for Perth, running annually in various formats since the late 1990s.

KM#866 is part of a broader 2005 release that included silver and base-metal companions, making the .999 gold version the premium tier of what was effectively a multi-format issue.
