| Reverse description | The reverse, designed and engraved by Horst Hahne, commemorates Sarah Durack as one of Australia's first Olympic gold medallists. A frosted bust of the swimmer is depicted emerging from stylised water, flanked by a laurel wreath symbolising athletic victory. A large Olympic gold medal on a ribbon is prominently rendered in the lower field, with a small vignette of an ancient Greek athlete at its centre. The inscription AUSTRALIA'S 1ST GOLD MEDALISTS arcs across the upper legend, the name SARAH DURACK appears in the lower centre field, and the denomination 10 DOLLARS is inscribed along the bottom. The engraver's initials HH are present within the design. |

Sarah Durack won Australia's first Olympic gold medal in swimming at Stockholm in 1912, doing so against the active resistance of the New South Wales Ladies' Amateur Swimming Association, which initially refused to send women to the Games at all. She was entered only after a private patron funded the trip. This coin is part of the RAM's "Legendary Australians" series, which ran through the mid-1990s as the mint expanded its collector proof program following the commercial success of earlier commemorative silver issues.
