Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. This is the third definitive portrait of the Queen, modelled by sculptor Raphael Maklouf, whose initials RDM appear incuse at the base of the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, while AUSTRALIA and the date 1989 arc along the right periphery, all in raised Latin lettering.
