Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, depicting the sovereign wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 10 DOLLARS and the date 2001 are inscribed along the lower field, flanking the portrait. The finely detailed bust is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, characteristic of Royal Canadian Mint craftsmanship.

Additional information

The holographic Maple Leaf series was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999 as a direct anti-counterfeiting measure, laser-etched interference patterns applied to the maple leaf itself — a first for a bullion coin series of this kind. The technology was developed in partnership with optical security firms and added a production step that kept mintages for hologram years notably lower than standard issues.

The 2001 date falls midway through the hologram program's run before it was quietly discontinued after 2008.
