At 0.31 g of gold spread across a 45 mm planchet, this is a foil-thin novelty issue — the large diameter relative to the minuscule gold content is the entire engineering point. Solomon Islands has served as the issuing authority for dozens of such collector discs produced by private minting houses, the national name lending legal tender status to products with no meaningful connection to the issuing territory.
