| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the iconic circular vibranium shield of Marvel's Captain America, rendered in vivid applied color. The design features four concentric rings: an outer ring in red, followed by a white ring, then a second red ring, and finally a central blue disc bearing a large five-pointed star in raised relief at its center. The coloring faithfully reproduces the patriotic red, white, and blue palette of the shield as it appears in Marvel comics and cinema. No legends or inscriptions appear on this face; the design fills the entire field to the reeded edge. |

Marvel licensing agreements with sovereign mints have proliferated since the early 2010s, but Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand Mint is among the longest-running and most commercially aggressive, producing dozens of pop-culture issues annually under the authority of a Pacific island nation with a permanent population under 2,000. The switch from Elizabeth II to Charles III on the obverse of this 2023 issue reflects the mid-production transition that followed her death in September 2022 — making early and late strikings of the same licensed designs distinguishable by effigy alone.
