| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau rendered in high relief at center, depicting a sea deity holding a trident seated alongside a mermaid within an ornate shield, surmounted by a traditional Palauan outrigger canoe. Eight five-pointed stars flank the shield in a circular arrangement within the field. Palau's collector coin program has leaned heavily on whimsical and novelty themes since the early 2000s, producing dozens of issues annually for the wholesale bullion-gift market rather than any domestic monetary purpose. This two-troy-ounce silver piece is one of hundreds of Palauan-licensed issues struck almost certainly at a European private mint — most likely the Mint of Poland or B.H. Mayer — with Palau lending its legal tender status to a coin its own population will never see in circulation.
