Obverse description The obverse bears the Barbados coat of arms rendered in fine detail at center, flanked by two heraldic supporters: a dolphin to the right, symbolizing the fishing industry, and a pelican to the left, recalling Pelican Island. The golden shield of the arms displays two Pride of Barbados blossoms and the Bearded Fig Tree (Ficus citrifolia). Above the shield rests a helmet with mantling, surmounted by a crest depicting an arm and hand holding two crossed sugarcane stalks, emblematic of the island's sugar industry. The face value, weight, and purity appear in the legend surrounding the design. The motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY is inscribed on a scroll at the base of the arms.
