| Obverse description | Three prospectors are depicted in the central field engaged in placer gold mining, with two figures standing and one crouching over a gold pan, rendered in fine relief against a polished field. The scene commemorates the 175th anniversary of the California Gold Rush. The encircling legend along the upper periphery reads '175 YEARS CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH' with the date '2023' completing the inscription. |

| Additional information |
Barbados has no historical connection to the California Gold Rush of 1848–49. This is a bullion-adjacent commemorative issued squarely for the collector market, one of dozens of sub-gram gold pieces produced under licensing arrangements that allow small Caribbean central banks to attach their authority to unrelated historical themes. The Central Bank of Barbados has issued a sustained run of such pieces since the 2010s.
At 0.5 grams, the planchet leaves almost no margin for striking error — a known issue with this diameter class from several contracted mints.
