The Marshall Islands began issuing brass collector dollars in the early 1990s as a revenue-generating program following formal independence in 1986, targeting the philatelic and numismatic novelty market rather than circulation. Hundreds of themes were commissioned in rapid succession, producing a sprawling series with little coherent collecting logic and notoriously inconsistent production records.
