Obverse description The arms of the Republic of Sierra Leone occupy the central field, depicting a shield supported by two rampant lions flanking two crossed palm trees, with a lion passant at the shield's centre. Below the shield, a scroll bears the national motto in three segments: UNITY, FREEDOM, and JUSTICE. The circumferential legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE arcs along the upper border within a beaded inner circle, while the date 2005 is prominently placed in the lower field. A small PM mint mark for the Pobjoy Mint appears at the lower left of the design.
