Obverse description Close-up portrait of the Statue of Liberty facing forward, rendered in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and crown rays radiating outward toward the rim. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper periphery, while E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed along the lower left field. The date 2008 appears to the right of the effigy, with IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed in two lines immediately below the date. The design, engraved by John M. Mercanti, conveys a commanding and iconic representation of Liberty in a distinctly modern numismatic style.
