| Obverse description | Close-up frontal effigy of the Statue of Liberty, her crowned head and face filling the field in high relief, with radiating spikes of her diadem visible above. The legend LIBERTY arcs across the upper border, while the date 1998 appears to the right of the effigy, accompanied by the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM curves along the lower left field in smaller lettering. The design, engraved by John M. Mercanti, conveys a bold and monumental portrait style characteristic of the American Platinum Eagle series. |
