Jamaica's 1981 conservation series was issued in coordination with the WWF and the IUCN's then-ongoing effort to document endangered Caribbean fauna — the American crocodile (*Crocodylus acutus*) population in Jamaica had been hunted to near-local extinction by the mid-20th century, primarily for its skin. The series was explicitly tied to fundraising awareness, not domestic circulation.
