Palau's numismatic program has operated largely as a commercial licensing venture since the 1990s, producing themed collector issues with little connection to domestic circulation. The Amar Sagar series draws on the ancient stepwell complex near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan — a royal pleasure garden and reservoir dating to the 15th century that fell into disrepair before partial restoration efforts in the late 20th century.
The two-troy-ounce format places this squarely in the high-relief collector market of the mid-2010s, when Palau-licensed issues multiplied rapidly across European distributors.
