Obverse description Blue intaglio print on purple guilloche underprint, with red serial numbers repeated in each corner. The Royal Arms vignette is positioned at upper centre flanked by the issuer's title in bold letterpress. A large purple underprint denomination 'TEN' occupies the centre field, overlaid by the promise-to-pay text in script lettering, the issue date, and three manuscript signatures of the Currency Commissioners. Chinese and Malay legend panels run along the top and bottom borders respectively.

Reverse description Blue intaglio print on an intricate purple guilloche underprint with no additional colour. A central oval vignette enclosed within an elaborate lathe-work border presents a tiger walking left through a rocky landscape; the surrounding field is filled with dense, symmetrical guilloche rosettes and arabesques in the De La Rue engraving style. Denomination numerals '10' appear at each corner within ornate cartouches.
