Comments

The Solomon Islands switched from the Australian dollar to its own currency in 1977, two years after achieving self-government. By the 1986 issue, the Central Bank was still in its early institutional years, and Thomas De La Rue had been supplying the series from the outset — the printer's relationship with Pacific island states being a near-monopoly arrangement throughout this period.

Watermark-only security on this issue reflects the relatively modest specification common to low-risk, low-volume Pacific currencies of the time. No security thread, no fluorescent inks.
