Obverse description Black and white intaglio-printed note with a central guilloche medallion bearing the denomination "TEN DOLLARS" in letterpress, flanked by two opposing portrait vignettes — a male figure to the left and another to the right, both rendered in fine line engraving. The bank title "the Bank of Montreal" appears in ornate script at the top centre, with the serial number printed in red at upper centre and the date "3rd Jan., 1938" and place "MONTREAL" below the central vignette. Two manuscript signatures appear at the bottom, attributed to the General Manager and President respectively, with the printer's imprint "CANADIAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, LIMITED" along the lower edge.
