Obverse description Black intaglio print on white paper with a central guilloche oval vignette inscribed TEN DOLLARS, flanked by two portrait vignettes — a facing left bust at left and a facing right bust at right, both rendered in fine engraved style. The bank title THE BANK OF MONTREAL arches across the top in bold letterpress, with the date MONTREAL, JAN. 2ND 1931 and the denomination numeral 10 appearing in each upper corner; red serial numbers are overprinted across the upper centre. Two manuscript signatures appear along the lower margin above the titles GENERAL MANAGER and PRESIDENT respectively.
