Obverse descriptionNauru coat of arms. A shield framed by the symbols of the tribal chiefs (shark teeth, palm strings and frigate feathers). The whole is surmounted by the twelve-pointed white star symbolizing the island of Nauru. The whole is crowned with a ribbon on which is written Naoero, the name of Nauru in Nauruan. The island`s motto `God`s will first`, inscribed on another ribbon, forms the lower part of the coat of arms. In the upper part of the shield, the chemical symbol for phosphorus. The bird on a wave background in the lower left is a frigate. The lower right features a flowering branch of takamaka.
