The UAE's shift to polymer for this denomination is part of a broader 2022 series refresh, but the more notable detail is the printer: Oumolat Security Printing LLC is a domestic facility, making the UAE one of very few Arab states producing security-grade polymer notes entirely within its own borders. Most regional central banks still rely on De La Rue, Giesecke+Devrient, or similar European contractors for substrate and print alike.

Polymer adoption in the Gulf has been cautious and piecemeal. The durability advantage in high-heat, high-humidity circulation environments is well documented, though the UAE's air-conditioned retail economy arguably reduces that edge compared to open-air markets elsewhere.
