Additional information

Tajikistan's diram denominations were introduced in 2000 when the somoni replaced the Tajik ruble at a rate of 1,000 to one — a redenomination forced by the economic collapse that followed the country's brutal civil war of the 1990s. The brass-plated steel composition adopted for this issue reflects the persistent budgetary constraints on the National Bank throughout the 2000s and into the following decade.
