Andorra's coinage authority has long used the annual lunar series to court bullion investors rather than serve any domestic monetary function — Andorra has no central bank and the diner has never functioned as everyday currency. The year 2000 issue carried additional commercial weight simply by landing on the millennium, a calendrical accident that inflated demand across virtually every collector-oriented mint program worldwide.
