| Obverse description | The quartered coat of arms of the Principality of Andorra is centrally displayed, surmounted by a bishop's mitre and flanked by the traditional heraldic supporters. The arms are enclosed within a semi-open decorative circle. The denomination '10 D.' and date '2005' appear in the lower field, while the circular legend around the periphery reads 'PRINCIPAT D'ANDORRA' above and 'VIRTVS VNITA FORTIOR' below, the latter being the national motto meaning 'United virtue is stronger.' |

Struck in the same year John Paul II died — April 2005 — this issue was almost certainly authorized and in production before his death on April 2nd, making it simultaneously a reign-era coin and an immediate memorial. Andorra, whose episcopal co-principality structure gives the Bishop of Urgell a formal role as co-head of state alongside the French president, has a genuine constitutional relationship with the Catholic Church that most papal commemorative issuers lack entirely.
