John Paul II died on April 2, 2005, and Andorra — one of the few remaining co-principalities in the world, with the Bishop of Urgell serving as one of its two co-princes — issued this piece in the same year, almost certainly as a memorial strike. The Vatican connection made such tributes natural currency for Andorran issues; the Episcopal co-prince gives Andorra a closer institutional tie to Rome than virtually any other secular state.
KM#205 is one of several silver commemoratives Andorra released that year, a notably productive period for the series.
