| Additional information |
Andorra had no formal monetary system of its own in 1989 — the principality used French francs and Spanish pesetas interchangeably in daily commerce. These collector issues, authorized under the authority of the Episcopal Co-Prince Joan Martí i Alanis, existed purely for the numismatic market, with no expectation of circulation. The 1990 World Cup series gave Andorra an opportunity to issue coins under its own name years before any domestic currency policy was established.
KM#53 is one of several denominations Andorra produced for Italia '90, all struck abroad under contract.
