| Obverse description | Central field features the Tunisian national coat of arms — a heraldic shield bearing a lion passant in the lower quarters, a galleon under sail in the upper portion, and a fasces at the centre — surmounted by a crescent and star device. The legend 'الجمهورية التونسية' (The Tunisian Republic) runs along the upper periphery in Arabic script, flanked by ornamental foliate motifs on either side. The denomination '10 دنانير' (10 Dinars) and dual-calendar date '2006 / 1427' appear in the lower field beneath the arms. |

The coup commemorated here is the November 7, 1987 removal of Habib Bourguiba by Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, carried out under a declaration of medical incapacity — a bloodless transfer that ended 30 years of single-party rule under Tunisia's founding president. Ben Ali's government marked each anniversary of that date with considerable ceremony, and commemorative coinage became a routine instrument of that official calendar. This piece, issued in his nineteenth year in power, predates his own ouster by five years; Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia on January 14, 2011, the first leader toppled by the Arab Spring.
