| Obverse description | Central field features the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia state coat of arms depicting six lit torches bound together, representing the six constituent republics, framed by wheat sheaves tied with a ribbon bearing the founding date. The encircling legend in Latin script reads the full official state name along the upper periphery, with the date 29·XI·1943 at the base, commemorating the founding of the federation. The design is characteristic of the 1963–1992 heraldic version of the arms. |

The 1963 Yugoslav coinage reform was part of a broader revaluation that replaced the old dinar at 100:1, effectively wiping out the inflationary overhang from the postwar reconstruction years. This piece belongs to the first series issued under the new decimal structure, which coincided with Yugoslavia's new constitutional arrangement — the 1963 constitution formally renamed the country the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which is precisely what "SFR" on this coin records. The designation distinguishes it cleanly from otherwise similar issues bearing the earlier "FNR" legend.
