| Obverse description | The German Federal Eagle (Bundesadler), rendered in bold relief, is depicted centrally in the field, facing left with wings spread and talons displayed. The circular legend BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND arcs across the upper periphery, while the date 1999 appears at the right and the denomination 10 DEUTSCHE MARK runs along the lower arc. The mint mark letter, here G (Karlsruhe), appears to the right of the denomination. The design is executed in a clean, modernist style consistent with Federal Republic commemorative coinage. |

| Reverse description | The entire reverse field is covered by a striking typographic design in which key articles from the German Basic Law (Grundgesetz) are rendered as a continuous spiral of text radiating outward from the centre, filling the field from the inner area to the outer legend. The central area contains the date 23. MAI 1949, and the spiralling text incorporates the foundational constitutional principles: ALLE STAATSGEWALT GEHT VOM VOLKE AUS, DIE WÜRDE DES MENSCHEN IST UNANTASTBAR, DIE FREIHEIT DER PERSON IST UNVERLETZLICH, and ALLE MENSCHEN SIND VOR DEM GESETZ GLEICH. The outer legend reads 50 JAHRE GRUNDGESETZ DER BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, arcing around the periphery. This bold graphic treatment by engraver Hans Joachim Dobler creates a visually unified celebration of the constitution's fiftieth anniversary. |
