Brazil's 1967 monetary reform lopped three zeros off the cruzeiro, creating the cruzeiro novo at a rate of 1,000 to one. Rather than wait for a fully redesigned issue, the Banco Central authorized overprinting of existing De La Rue stock — the 10,000 cruzeiros plates, already printed, were revalued by stamp to 10 cruzeiros novos. The two signature combinations reflect the transition between finance ministers: Delfim Netto held his post across both series, while the comptroller position changed hands mid-run somewhere around series 1001.
