Comments

The Banco Central de Costa Rica was established in January 1950, replacing the Banco Nacional as the country's sole issuer of currency — this 10 Colones note belongs to the earliest series produced under that new institutional mandate. ABNC had handled Costa Rican government printing contracts for decades prior, so the transition to the new central bank brought no change in supplier.

The series is relatively short-lived in circulation terms; higher-denomination notes from this 1950 run were withdrawn fairly quickly as inflation eroded their practical value through the early 1950s.
