Obverse description The obverse is printed in blue-grey intaglio and carries the dual institutional headings BANCO INTERNACIONAL DE COSTA RICA and CAJA DE CONVERSIÓN across the top. To the left, a classical female allegorical vignette is set within an ornate frame alongside a large roman numeral X; the central guilloche panel bears the numeral 10 in bold relief, flanked by the denomination text DIEZ COLONES and a detailed obligation clause in Spanish specifying gold payment in U.S. funds. The serial number appears twice in red at upper left and upper right, with place of issue San José and a hand-inked date at lower centre, above two manuscript signatures and the printer's imprint of the American Bank Note Company.
