Obverse description A stylized right-facing conch shell (shankha), one of the eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, depicted in high relief at the center of the field, rendered in traditional Bhutanese artistic style with elaborate scrollwork and cloud motifs surrounding it. The circular legend ROYAL GOVERNMENT OF BHUTAN runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1979 positioned at the base, flanked by two raised dots. A raised inner border separates the central design from the peripheral legend.
