Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of South Africa centrally positioned in the field, depicting a Secretary Bird with outstretched wings above a shield supported by two San Khoikhoi figures, with a spear and knobkierie crossed behind the shield and a protea flower at the base. A rising sun with rays appears above the bird, and a scroll at the base of the shield bears the national motto in the Khoisan !Ke e: /xarra //ke (meaning 'Unity in Diversity'). The mint engraver's initials ALS appear in the lower field, flanked by the country name uMzantsi Afrika (Zulu for 'South Africa') arching along the left and right periphery, with the date 2020 inscribed at the top.
