The Ceylon Ice and Cold Storage Company was a British colonial enterprise operating refrigerated storage and ice manufacture at Ragama, north of Colombo. Like other plantation-era firms in Ceylon, it issued small-denomination scrip to pay workers in a form redeemable only at the company's own store — a system that effectively tied wages to company-controlled prices and severely limited workers' economic mobility.

The distinction between type 1 and type 2 within this series most likely reflects a reprint with minor typographic or layout changes, a common occurrence when original stocks were exhausted faster than anticipated.
