Comments

Petro-Canada was created by the federal government in 1975 as a crown corporation, partly to give Canada direct participation in the oil sector during the energy crisis years. These internal scrip tokens — issued through the Owner's Department for use at company facilities — were a practical administrative tool, not a banking instrument. The precise circumstances of their circulation and redemption remain poorly documented in the numismatic literature, which makes attribution and dating difficult for any individual example.
