Additional information

Uganda's first decimal coinage was introduced at independence, with the 1966 series replacing the East African shilling that had circulated across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda under a shared colonial currency board. The shift required establishing entirely new monetary infrastructure — Uganda had no mint of its own and contracted production to the Royal Mint. A magnetic variant of this type was later introduced, distinguishing otherwise identical pieces and creating a quiet die-series anomaly that catches collectors off guard when attributing by KM number alone.
