Additional information

Hutt River Province declared unilateral secession from Western Australia in 1970 after a dispute over wheat production quotas — Leonard Casley, a farmer who became "Prince Leonard I," issued his own coinage partly as a bureaucratic assertion of sovereignty and partly as a revenue stream through collector sales. These bronze pieces were never intended for meaningful circulation and were sold primarily to tourists visiting the property and through philatelic and numismatic mail-order channels.
