Kibbutz scrip of this kind functioned as internal currency within closed communal economies — members received credit in place of wages, redeemable only at the kibbutz canteen or shop, which kept money from leaving the collective. Mishmar Hanegev, founded in 1946 in the Negev desert, was among the younger kibbutzim still consolidating its economic structure in the early statehood years when such tokens were most common.

These small-denomination chits are frequently undated and carry no serial numbers, making precise attribution difficult. Survival rate is low — they were consumable objects, not saved.
