GroPAC 13 was a U.S. Army Group Pacific Area Command unit stationed at Tangku (now Tanggu, part of Tianjin) in northern China following Japan's surrender in 1945. American forces occupied the area as part of the broader effort to accept the Japanese capitulation and stabilize the region before Nationalist Chinese authority could be properly reasserted. Mess tokens and scrip of this kind were produced locally to manage canteen transactions within a unit — printed on-site, circulated internally, and never intended to outlast the occupation itself.
Most were discarded or destroyed when the unit rotated out. Survivors are almost entirely from soldier souvenirs.
