Obverse description Printed in red-brown and olive-green on cream paper, the obverse carries a central guilloche underprint over which the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom appears as a vignette at the top centre, flanked by serial numbers at upper left and right. The issuer title "THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STRAITS SETTLEMENTS" is set in large letterpress within an ornate cartouche, below which the promise clause and denomination "TEN CENTS" appear. The date "14th October 1919", the legend "LOCAL CURRENCY FOR VALUE RECEIVED", and a manuscript Treasurer's signature occupy the lower register, with multilingual denomination inscriptions in Jawi and Chinese characters in the side panels. The printer's imprint "THOS. DE LA RUE & Co LTD LONDON" appears at the foot of the note.
