Fort Crook, near Omaha, Nebraska, held German prisoners of war during the Second World War under the Geneva Convention's canteen provisions, which required that POWs be provided access to goods using a non-transferable scrip rather than U.S. currency. This note is a product of that requirement. The camp closed and processing of remaining prisoners began in 1946, making late-dated Fort Crook scrip transitional material — issued as the population was already being repatriated.
POW canteen chits from stateside camps are genuinely uncommon survivors. Most were collected and destroyed at demobilization.
