| Obverse description | The obverse bears the mature effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as sculpted by Susanna Blunt, depicted uncrowned and wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The portrait presents the Queen at an advanced age, rendered with fine detail in the fields. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA arcs around the upper periphery in Latin script. The effigy is characteristic of the Blunt portrait adopted by the Royal Canadian Mint from 2003 onward. |

| Reverse description | The reverse reproduces, on a greatly enlarged scale, the iconic schooner design originally engraved by Emanuel Hahn for the Canadian ten-cent circulation coinage. The celebrated Bluenose schooner is depicted under full sail on the open sea, rendered in fine relief with the hull and surrounding waters enhanced by selective coloring in blue and grey tones. The legend CANADA appears at the upper field, while the denomination 10 CENTS and the date 2016 are inscribed within the design. The engraver's initial H, referencing Emanuel Hahn, appears discreetly within the reverse composition. |
