Reverse description A wreath composed of two maple branches, tied at the base with a ribbon, frames the central field. Surmounting the composition at the top is the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine relief. The denomination '10 CENTS' and the country name 'CANADA' appear in bold upright lettering in the centre of the field, with the commemorative date range '1908-1998' inscribed below, marking the 90th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint. The reverse design is a faithful adaptation of the Edwardian-era Canadian ten-cent reverse first used in 1908.

Additional information

The 1998 dime is one of the last years of the transitional silver proof issues before the Royal Canadian Mint consolidated its collector programs. Two die varieties exist for this date — catalogued as RC-214a and RC-214b — distinguished by minor differences in the effigy hub, reflecting the RCM's ongoing adjustments to the Deidre Hunt-modified Machin portrait that had been introduced in 1990.
