Canada's colored circulation-format collector issues occupy an odd corner of the hobby — technically legal tender, practically never spent. These small-denomination silver pieces were sold directly to collectors at a significant premium over face value, a practice the Royal Canadian Mint normalized through the 2000s as silver bullion prices made traditional silver coinage economically impractical for everyday use. The .9999 fine specification places them above even sterling standard.
